most of the time whenever i make a drop and a bottom turn, i get stuck in the flats, with the white water right at my rail and the face of the wave ahead of me. i also see alot of guys that doing this strange pump move. they throw their hands above their heads then jump. but when this happens to me, i always fail in doing the right technique and i miss the good ride. i was just wondering if i can learn more techniques or if my bottom turn is really not right.. it's always giving me troubles..

That's a fairly common mistake made my beginners/intermediate skill surfers. You may be riding your board, but your not truly riding the wave. Watch what the wave does, and react to it. Generally from what you've described, you're dropping in to far in front of the wave, try and get a bit of angle on the take off, take off a bit sooner or make a tighter bottom turn.
