ooooooh HELP!
I think i recently developed this bad habit.
I started paddling the other day while lying on my board. Then i held the rails & put my back foot on the board & oushed up with my arms & back leg. All i had to do was position my front foot. I know it's not very elegant but i can stand up this way probably 40% of the time, as quick as popping up.
So do you think it's a bad habit i shoud get rid of?

In my opinion? If you'll pop up, aim it wid your both feet landing on the board, at the same time, if you can :) Because if u use ur back leg & ur hands to pop up, that will be more of a duck dive than a pop up & u will lower the speed. practice maybe is still the best solution. find ur own way of doing it
hope i was able to help!

U need a lot more practice! and get out of the habit of using your knees or your feet. practice in your living room & do some press ups. Watch others during a surfing game. Get to the water as often as u can! And it wont take long until u're able to pop up just right. Dont u worry, it might really take a longer time.. it may even result to improper surfing wipeouts... practise!

Stop taking shortcuts. Try to draw your surfboard & then cut one out of a board so you will have ur own pop-up practice board to use at home. It's a really excellent tool and it WORKS! I had the same problem before & the same advice was given to me. I kept on practiCing using the cut out board. And now? Well, i have no more problems. Stick with that. I know ud be pleased with the results.
