I'd like to ask for advice on paddling onto unbroken waves? I mean.. im good in catching & riding waves that just started to break, and that's catching the shoulder, right? But i sometimes freak out upon trying to catch an unbroken surfing wave, i panic as i look down, then i pull out! the only best feeling is when i get up on a clean wave.

the best thing to do is to make an angled take off! do not face down, but look across the face of the wave instead. look where u want to go then pop up!
just go for it! What's the worst that can happen? No big deal for one great surfing game!

YEAH Yeah, it's no big deal. it's only water & it can't hurt u..
But what i keep reminding myself though is that surfing is a tough & fun sport. Practice & experiment are the only solutions to be competent. I've also gone through piles of solid surfing wipeouts. Then eventually, i also found out the techniques that work for me...

Angle your back as much as possible, depending on the size of the wave you're catching. For big wave surfing, sit a little bit forward on ur board, use ur back to counteract. Then popup quickly & start your turn..
Remember NOT to look down & NOT to watch your feet when you pop-up.. And the more backwards you stay on your board, the faster you can travel on the wave.

I seriuosly don't think that the waves you're surfing can hurt you. They must be really big if they do hurt you. But you won't hit the bottom anyway, and even if you hit surfing boards, they will only move away. So relax, it's nothing to get scared of! Just go for it...

You got to be careful if you think smallish waves can't hurt you, they can. There's another thread along those lines around here somewhere...

A bad day surfing is better than a good day working
