Hi guys, i've been surfing for years and for the longest time, i've been using a foam board and learned to surf from it... it was just recently that i switched to a shortboard.. i am having troubles adapting to its nature though.. generally, i can't get enough speed from it and when i do, i find it hard to control. what should i do??

shifting from longboard surfing to short board surfing is such a big
step. you would have to take yet another learning curve for your
surfing lessons.. you'll get used to it in a while but i suggest you
get a surfboard whose size comes in between so you can take a much
easier transition.

By foam board I guess you're talking about a sponge? The transition from a longer board to a shorter board should not be that difficult. If you feel competent on a longboard, it may take a few sessions to feel competent on a shortboard. If after a few sessions you don't feel competent, keep riding the longboard until you have mastered it, then shortboard transitioning will be easier.

A bad day surfing is better than a good day working
