is being good in swimming necessary in becoming a good surfer?!?
I just started surfing last summer and up to now, I still know only the basics in surfing, I'm having a hard time learning some techniques to become a better surfer.
Will that be because I'm not a good swimmer

I don't think you need to be good swimmer, knowing the basic is enough for you to be able to surf, although sum advanced swimming techniques could be useful.

Beach is where I find my self most of the time.

It's not quite necessary. You can always learn surfing even if you do not know how to swim.
But i must say, swimming is a good foundation in learning any other water sports.. You'll need it every once in a while..

Especially if you're being chased by a SHARK

i agree with them, you don't necessarily have to be a good swimmer to become a good suffer but i think it's
very useful and knowing that you can swim pretty well can also make you more comfortable in the water...

Depends on what you surf. If you ride smallish, summer type waves, being a strong swimmer isn't as important as if you were riding gnarly winter waves, OH+. Regardless of what you ride, you should be able to swim a considerable distance without the aid of a flotation device before you surf.

A bad day surfing is better than a good day working

For me, swimming is necessary in surfing. You'll need it in order to survive surfing waves & surfing wipeouts! Right? And it's a good fitness activity for surfing too. If a surfer goes swimming regularly too, it could count alot on his or her paddling strengths!

Swimming and surfing are package. You can not take the other without taking it both. When learning to surf, you tend to fall several time, if you don't want to drown, then you better swim. Swimming is halfway in learning to surf.

knowing how to swim is a great advantage. it will give u enough confidence knowing that once you fall from the board, at least you know how to save yourself.. well, swimming is the next best thing, i guess
