The surf shop of old which still exists today had an innocence about it which reflected the surfing industry in its purest form. What great experiences we all had meeting our hero’s and discussing all things surfing at the centre of our small surfing community. This simplistic pure indulgence certainly had a special place in every surfer’s heart and still does.

Evolution described as the change over time in the proportion of individual organisms differing in one or more inherited traits that is the result of gene environment interactions is infinite in its development. Just as the world has changed so has surfing and the activities that intertwine it’s make up. The development of the internet has changed the way the surfing community interacts in every form and it is really only in its infant stage of development. Surf news is now instantly available, surfing competitions are broadcast live and surf conditions are predicted in advance. The humble surf shop has also progresses to online, providing us with unlimited surf products and surf accessories and surf news, but denying us of those pure sounds that in some way link a surf community.

The good definitely out ways the bad, especially with the advent of live competitions which is simply a joy to be able to watch. The ability to source a vast and different range of surf products is exciting with the advent of the online surf shop and I for one am a supporter, but part of me will always miss the pure sounds and surroundings of the humble surf shop.
