Surfboard Wax, or Surf Wax is a concoction of paraffin and beeswax. It comes in different kinds and hardness and is readily available in surf shops.
Take note that not all waxes can be used on your board. There are degree ratings for Surfboard Waxes which depend on the temperature of the water you will be surfing in. In other words, wax made for cold temperatures will definitely melt if used in warm water conditions.
Application & Removal
- Rub the wax on the top surface of the board, from rail to rail, and then nose to tail.
- More wax means better traction, but do not apply too much wax on your board.
- Do not apply wax at the bottom of the board.
- Apply wax every time you go Surfing.
- After a few wax applications, the surface of your board will become slick, losing its traction. Roughen up the surface with a wax comb. This is used to make crisscross lines on the board’s surface to bring back the traction you need.
- Keep your wax and waxed board away from direct sunlight.
- Apply wax in a shaded place.
- In removing the Surf Wax, leave the board under the sun to soften the wax. After a few minutes, scrape the wax off with the use of a plastic scraper or an old credit card.
Applying and removing Surf Wax on your Surfboard can be a time-consuming task, but it will be worth your time and effort. Make it a habit to put wax on your board for better traction and a lot more time riding the waves.
