Surfing Gear & Equipment - Surfing Accessories

Surfing Equipment & Gear - Surfing Accessories In Surfing, you only need the right type of Surfing Board, Surfing Clothes, and sunscreen and you’re good to go. But there are several extras that will keep your board in good condition or improve its performance, and accessories that can make the experience safer and more enjoyable.

  • Traction pad
Also called a deck pad or deck grip, the traction pad is a piece of sheet or rubber patch attached at the back end of the board, giving maximum grip to the rear foot. If you want to use it, make sure that your board has no wax. In addition, your unwaxed board should be cleaned thoroughly so the pad will stick properly.

  • Ear plugs
Are you a fan of Surfing in cold water? You better protect your ears, unless you want to have lumps in the ear canal. This is called the surfer’s ear. It is a condition in which the exposure to cold water and wind over a long period of time causes bony growth in the ear canal, resulting to blockage in the canal or partial deafness. Those who surf in cold water regularly are more likely to have surfer’s ear than those who go surfing in warm water. Use ear plugs to avoid having surfer’s ear. These will be able to keep your ears warm and dry when surfing.

  • Nose guard
This accessory keeps the nose of your board free of dings and scratches.

  • Board bag
Keep your board away from wear and tear and maintain its good condition especially when traveling by putting it in a good Surfboard bag. It comes in different sizes and designs for various kinds of boards. On short trips, a Surfboard sock will do. If you will be traveling by plane or on the road in long distances, make sure to keep your board in a thick and heavy duty travel bag.

  • Surf rack
This is an indispensable piece when traveling. It secures your board on the roof of your car while you’re headed to the surf spot. It can be fixed on top of your car or a set of nylon straps and clips that you can attach to your car every time you need to secure your board.

Do not forget to bring these accessories with you. Though these items are not your primary pieces of Surf Gear, they can be very useful in your trips.
