2007 British Bodyboarding Nationals
THURSDAY, 27 SEPTEMBER 2007
For the first time ever, the British Bodyboarding Championships will be held at Porthtowan beach, Cornwall. The event, taking place on the 29th and 30th September and sponsored by Smith & Williamson Solomon Hare, will showcase some of the best UK based riders. Last year’s British-Champion Aaron Dinham will be keen to regain hold on this prestigious title.
The British Surfing Association (BSA), saw the biggest ever entry at the 2006 event with over a hundred riders competing. Bodyboarders came to Newquay from all over the country and this year the competition looks set to be even larger as Britain’s best riders battle it out. Generous sponsors have donated the largest cash prize yet with over £2,000 for the winners, raising the stakes again from previous events on the UK Bodyboarding scene.
In last year's event Pablo Sarrano pulled off an outrageous ARS (Air, roll, spin) en-route to becoming champion. His German nationality meant that runner up Aaron Dinham is the British title holder.
This year’s categories will include Women’s, Under 18s, Under 16s, Under 14’s and Seniors as well as the Drop Knee (knee & foot) discipline. The weekend is certain to be a solid two days of competitive action and the party will continue well into the night. The funky Blue Bar, right on the beach at Porthtowan, will be hosting a fantastic evening with drinks promos and a live band.
Karen Walton of the BSA says, “The British Bodyboard Championships look set to be more exciting than ever with all the best bodyboarders competing for the generous prize money provided by our sponsors Smith & Williamson Solomon Hare. In the past the competition has been crucial for the selection of the bodyboarders for the British Surfing Team so everyone will be performing with selection in mind, in addition to the title. The move to Porthtowan is perfect as a bodyboarding contest destination and the Blue Bar will be a great venue for a post event celebration.”
The event is organized by the British Surfing Association and sponsored by Smith & Williamson and Solomon Hare, KBB, Prone, Rob Barber’s Bodyboard School, Reveller, The Pit, Alder, HQ, ThreeSixty and British Bodyboard Club.
