Mexico - Adrian Ruiz, a 24-year old surfer from San Francisco, died after a shark attacked him during a surfing trip in the Pacific coast in Mexico last Monday.
Ruiz and his friends were surfing at the Troncones beach, west of Acapulco, when he was bitten by a shark on his right thigh. He died immediately after reaching the hospital due to blood loss.
According to Adrian Helm, a friend who was with Ruiz during the accident, he knew Ruiz was going to die after seeing the wound ripped by the tiger shark. According to the Guerrero state Public Safety Department, the wound was 15 inches on the victim’s right thigh, exposing the femur from the hip to his knee.
Osman Altamirano, an employee in the hotel where Ruiz and his friends are staying, heard Helm screaming for help. He rushed to the site where Helm was holding Ruiz afloat. They immediately rushed Ruiz in the military hospital located in Ixtapa, 30 minutes away from the resort.
