O'Neill Clothing Premieres New Movie 'The Life'

O'Neill Clothing is opening their highly anticipated surf movie, "O'Neill Presents The Life", this week during the Honda US Open of Surfing presented by O'Neill. "The Life" is directed by Jamie Brisick and takes a behind the scenes look at the lives of seven extraordinary surfers with the likes of Jordy Smith, Timmy Reyes, Roy Powers, Cory Lopez, Ian Walsh, Tamayo Perry, and John John Florence, as they travel the world in search of finding the perfect wave and pursuing their dreams.

"The reality of pro surfing is that it's not all epic waves and champagne victories. It's extremely taxing on mind, body, and spirit, and to endure, the top athletes are forced to dig deep within and extract that inner Superman. "The Life" follows seven unique surfers as they attempt to do exactly this," said Brisick.

"The Life" World Premiere is Thursday, July 24 at a private showing in Long Beach, CA. The movie will also have a public premiere in Huntington Beach, CA at the US Open Surfing on Saturday, July 26 at 4:00pm. The US Open Premiere will take place at the Southwest Airlines Concert Stage, north of the pier, with live performances by Rebelution and Louis XIV.

"Amongst the sea of surf film projects today, 'The Life' stands out as a unique surf documentary, that captures the essence of seven truly diverse athletes," said Steve Ward, Vice President of Marketing and Executive Producer, "O'Neill set out to produce a film that chronicles the behind scenes look at what professional surfers endure to live their dream."

If you don't have a chance to see "The Life" this weekend, the movie will be embarking on an east coast tour in August. Visit www.oneill.com to be up-to-date on all O'Neill events, promotions, and happenings.

O'Neill, the original Californian surf, snow, and lifestyle brand, was founded in 1952 when a young man named Jack O'Neill took his unstoppable passion for surfing and used it to beat Mother Nature at her own game. Pioneering the world's first neoprene wetsuit, Jack had successfully found a way to extend his surf sessions in the bone-chilling breaks of Northern California. He opened up the garage doors to his first surf shop in Santa Cruz soon after.

Cape Cod Bay Challenge: Stand-up Paddle Marathon

Bob Babcock (Carver, MA) and Mike Brown (Manchester, MA) are pleased to announce the 1st Cape Cod Bay Challenge Event. On August 9, 2008, a small group of stand-up paddle surfers will attempt a grueling marathon paddle across Cape Cod Bay from Plymouth to Provincetown to raise awareness and money to help stop the ever growing problem of pollution in our oceans and along our shores. Trash in the ocean kills more than one million seabirds and 100,000 marine mammals and turtles each year through ingestion and entanglement.

All proceeds from the event will benefit Ocean Conservancy, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting healthy and diverse ocean ecosystems. Part of the proceeds of this event will go towards the Ocean Conservancy's International Coastal Clean Up on September 20, 2008. The International Coastal Cleanup is a year-round volunteer effort to keep our oceans and waterways free of trash - and healthier for humans and marine life. The 2007 International Coast Cleanup Data Findings was released on April 17th. The findings provide a global snapshot of the problem of trash in the ocean. It details the Top 10 Debris Items Collected Worldwide, as well as the Top 10 Most Dangerous Items and many other compelling statistics. The report is available online at www.oceanconservancy.org/icc.

Stand-up Paddle Surfing is the fastest growing water sport in the world. Originally the sport of Hawaiian royalty, and then popular with the Waikiki beach boys of the 1950s, it has recently enjoyed a resurgence worldwide. The beauty, purity, and the challenge of this sport make it a wonderful platform to raise awareness about the extremely serious issue of ocean pollution. Our goal is to make this an annual event that will serve as an ongoing fundraiser for, and a reminder of, our need to be responsible stewards of the ocean.

We are seeking additional sponsors, donations, and a limited number of experienced paddle surfers for this inaugural Cape Cod Bay Challenge. For additional information, please contact Bob Babcock at rcbabcock@comcast.net, Mike Brown at mbrown@dtzfhopartners.com or cmccarthy@oceanconservancy.org.

Donations can be made by sending a check made out to Ocean Conservancy to Bob or Mike at the contact information above or a donation form can be mailed or emailed to you. More information and a printable donation form are also available at www.capecodbaychallenge.org.
